Stupid question for the day.? is my ipad charging when...

Hi, when I plug in my iPad Pro USBC port, i get a message to "unlock the Ipad to use the Accessory" (or something like that.)

my question is, if i just plug in a powered USBC cable when it stares up, and i forget to unlock it, Is it still charging, or will it not start chargig till i Unlock it.?
