Hello

Had a power outage last night and when the power came back on my external speakers will not work. The internal speakers work fine. I tested the external speakers on my iPad and iPhone but will not work again on my iMac OSX,10.7.4 When I do plug them in to to out put jack where they were it does hum both putting them in and taking them out. Any suggestions
Thanks Mark

Hello and welcome.

Sounds like the power outage may have caused some hardware damage.

-What model Mac is it?
-Have you tried using headphones? Same result?

Its a Mac OSX. Yes I tried the headphones and they don't work either. Do you think the outage could have done that and is it repairable ?

Yes, the outage could have spiked through the Mac and damaged the board.

As for cost, it depends on whether the MLB has the sound ports built-in or if it a separate board. Also depends on the exact model. I assume it is an iMac? How old is it?

You could try powering it off, unplugging everything for 15-30 mins, then powering it back up again. Probably won't help, but it's worth a shot.
