Sound is diminishing

I have noticed lately that the sound seems to be getting quieter and quieter on my MacBook Air 2014

• Which version of macOS?
• In all applications or just some?
• Do you have any sound applications installed that launch at startup - like Boom 2?
• Have you tried an SMC and NVRAM reset?

Thank you Cory: I have 10.13.6. I notice the sound issue when I am listening to music or talks on ITunes or watching/listening to a news video on Youtube. I hear fine on Facetime or Zoom. I have no other sound applications. I don't know what an SMC or NVRAM reset is. I have done re-start in safe mode several times and Disk Utility First Aid but nothing else.

iTunes and YouTube videos have separate volume controls from the system, so you could check those.
