SOLVED SMC-reset

I have an old Mac running on El Capitan. Recently, everything "freezes" and I need to restore with a SMC-reset. This solves the problem for a short time, but then the same problem reoccurs which I then reset, etc. etc. Suggestions (other than a new Mac)?

Freezes is the operative word hear, as a SMC reset mainly deals with lower level system functionality to your Mac, particularly for power and hardware related troubles, and general sluggish behavior not total freeze ups.

Can I ask you to check activity monitor for any process that seems resource hungery. Also how much RAM do you have?
