Saying "restart" when i try to update

Hi everyone. I have some problems updating my Mac book Pro. Everytime i search for Updates it finds one, i download it and then it says "you have to restart the computer before updating" i do that- and nothing happens. I have tried 4-5 times now and its the same each time. Someone knows how to help?

Which update are you referring to, was it the one put out this week for Mavericks OS X users?
