I have a problem with my iMac that has just started, I can no longer access Facebook or log on to my ebay account.

I've deleted cookies and rebooted etc.

Can anybody tell me how to fix this?

Thanks

I tried that after my original post, Firefox is exactly the same.

I'm not sure if it's linked or not but I'm also having trouble sending emails, but i receive them ok

Any advice much appreciated

Are you behind any Proxy Server or Firewalls?

Mail > Window > Connection Doctor, will give you more information on the mail problem.

I'd say it's a internet connection problem.

Are you on Ethernet or WiFi?

there are a number of potential places that sites can be blocked.
It's very difficult to point, could be the site, their ISP, your ISP, a firewall, your router, your firewall, hosts file, Parental Controls, and such. It's not easy...

Contact Ebay and Facebook and ensure your accounts have not been compromised...

ok, I'm presuming from the same WiFi.

In Utilities > Keychain Access, find the FaceBook and Ebay stored credentials and delete them.

Download OnyX and run the cleaning maintenance automation script ... make sure you don't use your Mac while it's running. You'll prob need to put in your Admin name/pw. When you reboot it will take ages to load the welcome screen and that's normal so just be patient.

Hi This issue seems to be more common than expected.
iMac 2010 21in OSX 10.8.2 16g ram.
Router connected via ethernet and iMac wireless turned off.
Speedtest 115mbs download and 2.1mbs up.

All running well until Safari spat dummy, and decided to not load certain pages. Facebook, ebay, Apple and smh.com.au all time out. Other pages eg google load fine however when I tried to download Firefox via google it timed out. Firefox installed via USB but same issue noted.

No success as yet but this is what I have tried so far....
Reboot router and computer several times.
Cleared cache and reset safari
Ran Onyx and reboot
Restored to an earlier time machine image.
Successfully disabled ipv6 via terminal commands

Anything else to try that you may suggest?
This google search proves this is not an isolated occurrence
