Hope this is the right place to post this. If not, sorry.
I am running Safari 11.0.2 on High Sierra.

I just installed it on my new iMac and I can't get the "open pages in new tab" option to work.

It worked just fine on my old Mac mini but not here.

In preferences, I have "Open pages in tabs instead of windows" set to automatically but that isn't happening.

Does anyone have an idea as to why?

Thanks for any help on this.

Hello,

Normally, this will open clicked links to another site in a new tab, but not most pages on the same site.

Can you verify that?

Thanks for your reply, Cory.

I have gone to preferences and tried Never, Automatically and Always. But a click on a link does nothing more than open in the original page (search engine). If I hold down cmd- click, it will open in a new tab. Not what I am looking for. But it does work.

Strange...it works on my Macs running Sierra and High Sierra.

When you tried Always, did this confirmation window appear?

Hi Cory.
Thought I would let you know what the problem was.
I use DuckDuckGo on Safari and that was where the problem was.
It finally occurred to me to check the configuration on that and, sure enough, all I had to do was turn on the option to open linked pages in a new tab.
So it wasn't Safari at all.
Live and learn.

Thanks for all your help.

No worries...as long as the issue is resolved, we're happy if you're happy.
