Hi,

Having a devil of a time getting Time Machine going
with the new external 2 TB WD drive I bought for it.

The drive may be defective, but I thought it would be worthwhile to
re-format it, and try once more.

It's presently formatted as Mas OS Extended (journled).

Can't seem to find any option anywhere that would
allow me to re-format this drive.

a. Where should i look, please ?
b. Would it make more "sense" to re-format as EX-FAT ? Why ?

Thanks for all the previous help.
Great Forum.

Disk utility.

Shift + Command + U, then select disk utility. select the drive you want to format (Left column) Click Erase, you will be able to select how you want to format the drive.

Hi Bob,

I could be wrong and someone will correct me if so, ;) but I was under the impression that time machine only supported Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format, and also Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled) as well as Xsan formats.

But via terminal commands you can get TM to use unsupported drives such as EX-FAT.

To save me running through it here is am example
