Hello,

The Dock (on the very bottom) won't allow me to place some
shortcuts/alias's in it.

No idea why.

a. What are the "rules" or limitations regarding the placing of
items, alias's, and shortcuts in it ?

b. And, I seem to remember that there was offered many years ago
a paid APP that would allow you to have 2 Docks active on the screen; one above the other.

Anyone happen to know name of, or anything similar ?

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob,

There is only 1 rule to know about the dock.

Apps can be added to the left of the separator, and then folders and documents can be added to the right of the separator.

In the app that you got that creates a 2nd dock, you would need to go to the website for that app to see what rules they have.

Here’s a crude way: Create a folder that is not synchronized anywhere else, as on the Desktop if it’s synched to iCloud, start creating aliases of items that you want to access from the dock. Then add that folder to the dock, and just like any other folder there, like Downloads or Screenshots, click and hold on that “folder” on the dock and it should display the contents for you to select.

A “non-crude” means, if you don’t mind accessing the menu bar instead of the dock, is XMenu.app, which allows you to create a menu item for folders and another for files. It is one of my “must-have” utilities, probably only second to Default Folder, and it’s available from the App Store, for free!

Wow Tony, I have never seen that app. Personally I'm fine with the Launcher and Dock but I'm sure lots of people would use this especially for Documents and Folders.
