Photos Difficulty

I store all my photos on an external hard drive. Recently, I was unable to open photos with the comment that 'photos has attempted to repair the library "Photos" but is unable to open it'. I talked to some folks at Best Buy who suggested my external hard drive was nearing its end and sold me a Seagate. My photos all transferred over (I think/hope) but now I am getting the same message. I admit to panicking a bit thinking I may have lost some photos. Can anyone suggest a way to make my new external hard drive work? Thanks for any help.

If your User account is a non-admin account then try launching Photos while holding both the Option and Command keys.

This should open Photos with an alert that you are about to repair the library. Click 'Repair' then enter your Admin User Name/Password in the next window to start the process.
