My MacBook Pro 15 is up to date with Firefox and Chrome. I get pdf documents that need a password to open them. First, I must create a password. But the on-line instructions require moves that don't exist (eg, File > Password etc).
What is the answer?
Thank you!

I don’t quite get it. If you get PDFs that require a password to open, you cannot create your own password, it has to be provided to you by the sender. Creating password encryption for your own files is fairly simple using Preview. Do a File > Export… and from the dialog window, click on Permissions… to bring up the encryption options.

Let me repeat. You cannot open a password-protected file from another party with a password that you create yourself.
