Output to monitors

I am interested in hooking up my mac to a monitor and was wondering if it is possible to not only have the monitor displaying the screen but also the inbuilt monitor on my MacBook pro Early 2015 13". Putting it in a better way, if I plug in the monitor can the monitor and mac display stuff?

Are you asking if, when you connect a monitor to your MacBook, both the monitor screen and the MacBook screen are displaying "stuff"?

If so, the answer's yes. You can, for example, have iTunes on one screen and Safari on the other.
