On My iMac with Big Sur

I keep getting messages such as. DISK NOT EJECTED PROPERLY
EJECT 8T TIME MACHINE BEFORE DISCONNECTING OR TURNING IT OFF
IT DOES SHOWBACKUP WAS 44 MINUTES AGO!

ARE MY BACKUPS COMPLETE?

8 T Time machine is as you probably 8 Terabytes guessed.

Hello,

-Which model Mac?
-Which version of OS X/macOS?
-Which brand/model is the 8 TB drive?
-What connection - USB, Thunderbolt, FireWire?

It could be that an SMC reset is needed, a failing connection cable/port, etc.
