No audio

I am trying to display computer video and audio on my tv. The machine is a Late 2012 iMac. I have connected an HDMI cable from a Thunderbolt port to the tv. Tv shows the video but there is no sound. Any thoughts on the subject will be appreciated. Thanks for looking.

-What version of OS X/macOS?
-What brand is your Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter?
-Are there any settings in the TV for the HDMI input and sound?

OS: Sierra 10.12.5
Mini Display port: Cirago (don't know & can't see a model number)
TV is an older LG flat screen with a single HDMI input. However I have connected a 4- port automatic HDMI switch in order to accommodate a cable box, DVD player, Chromecast & computer. There is no sound even when i make a direct connection from the computer to the tv and bypass the switch.

-Is it this: Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter (4K) or this Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter?
-Did you verify that  > System Preferences... > Sound > Output is set to Digital Output or HDMI?
