Hey, a 100 I.Q. is par. I went through several semesters of Tests & Measurements in Psychology so I would know. Don’t undersell yourself. Anyway, what format is the video file are we talking about? I use VLC a lot, but never for converting files. You are correct about the VideoLan file being large. I tested a .mp4 video file and saved it with VLC as m4v (I didn’t see if VLC could export into other formats) and the result is 76.7 MB original mp4 to 111 MB m4v which is almost 150% larger, same resolution.

I download and save numerous video files, mostly from YouTube, using MacX YouTube Downloader.app which works flawlessly for me. It’s freeware, mainly because the main product they sell is MacX Video Converter Pro, which I ended up buying even if I don’t use it, just because… Try to Google “MacX YouTube Downloader” to get to the developer page.It can also download to lower resolutions, so you don’t have to get 4K if you don’t need that much resolution. As I mentioned, it’s freeware with no obligation whatsoever to purchase Converter. I haven’t found any other similar application through several years of using it.
