Hi there.
I am looking for some help in accessing my late Grandad’s Mac as I do not know the passwords to his accounts. Having inherited his computer following his passing I am keen to access his accounts to recover any photos and personal items he had.

I have tried accessing the utilities page by pressing Command + R upon start, however this just brings up another Lock Screen asking for another password. I have attached an image of that Lock Screen.
If anyone knows how I can get around these issues I would be extremely grateful.
Thanks in advance

Hello and welcome.

First off, my sincerest condolences on your loss.

Unfortunately, that is a firmware password, and there isn't anyway around it. Apple can sometimes remove it with the original receipt, but not always.

Set a firmware password on your Mac

You could contact Apple Support and see if they have any possible solutions for you.
