mouse freezes, until I reset plug

This has happened a few times now, and I'm stumped. My cursor just freezes. Moving the mouse doesn't move the cursor. It's frozen. I swear and shake the mouse ... nothing. But what gets it working each and every time is just unplugging the mouse and plugging it back in. This is just a regular wired mouse and an iMac 10.6.8. What's going on? Is something getting reset, or is it a flaky plug? This doesn't happen often. Maybe once every few days. But it's annoying. Just started happening last week.

If it were a flaky plug, you'd think that unplugging it and plugging it back in wouldn't always get it working.

Maybe try plugging in the mouse to another port?

Sounds like the USB bus is getting overloaded - possibly the mouse starting to fail.

You could try another port as honestone mentioned.

Also, try resetting the SMC, as it controls the power to the USB ports:
