Monitor keeps changing, going black

Ive got a 2018 MacBook Pro. Using the display port to run an LG4K monitor for FCPX. for about 6 months. Recently, it started to get way brighter when I exit FCPX to Safari or desktop, and then this week, it started going black for a few seconds. When I switch USBC ports, it goes away for a while. Any thoughts?

I assume you are using an Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to HDMI adapter, correct?

I would try a couple of resets:

• How to reset the SMC of your Mac
• Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac

See if that resolves it. If not, it may be the adapter, cable, or other hardware issue.

I'm actually using a USBC to HDMI cable. But, your suggestion sounds worth a try.
