Mobile signal loss

My iPhone 5s lost its connection with mobile network for a number of days. I was told by both the network provider and an Apple Store that I would need to buy a new iPhone as the 5s was not supported by Apple. However after 4 days the connection came back after the phone had been switched off for some hours. Will the signal just drop out or is this a general problem?

Hello and welcome.

It could be several things: failing or loose SIM card, failing battery, etc.

-Which version of iOS?
-How much free space is available?
-Have you tried removing and reinserting the SIM card?
-Have you tried Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings?

That definitely sounds frustrating, but not totally surprising given the age of the iPhone 5s. A lot of older devices are starting to lose compatibility with newer network updates, especially as carriers move fully over to LTE and 5G and drop 3G support. I had a similar issue with an old phone on boost mobile —it would randomly lose service for days, then suddenly reconnect. Sometimes it's just the network phasing out support quietly, or the SIM card struggling to stay registered
