Macbook Air only turns on when plugged in, shows 'charging' but stays at 4%. Bad charger? Bad battery?

The little light on the charger isn't illuminating. Started suddenly yesterday and now as soon as I unplug the mac it dies. Plug it back in and it'll say 'charging' at anywhere from 1'5%, but the percentage never actually grows.

I am using an amazon charger that I got a few weeks ago. Can return it but before doing so want to know if there's a way to determine if it's the charger or the battery that's being problematic.

Hello and welcome.
  • Which exact model MacBook Air?
  • What is the wattage of the Amazon charger - do you have a link to the Amazon page?
If the AC adapter wattage is too low, it may power the MBA, but it will not charge the battery. It could actually discharge the battery.
