Mac won't recognize phone hooked up to USB

The screen broke on my phone so I plugged it into the USB on my Mac so I could get the pictures off the phone but my Mac acts like there's nothing plugged into the USB. It doesn't show up in finder or anything and it's frustrating. It loaded fine on my PC (which I no longer have) so why wont it even recognize on my Mac?

Maybe you broke more than the screen?

Did you look in iPhoto? Finder? the iPhone doesn't show in Finder.

I never said it was an iPhone. It's not. Everything else works on the phone because I can see it when it loads. It's a touch screen though so I can't navigate the phone.
