Recently I upgraded from a 10.5.8 to 10.6.3 snow leopard. SInce upgrading I can't get my software updates to work, it goes through everything and once you restart it, it just sits sit there with the mac background and cursor. I have to always force shut it down, I once even let it sit there for 4 hours and did nothing. So i upgraded to 10.6.4, still the same result. Thanks for your help in advance. All software updates worked during 10.5.8, everything was out of date so i got the 10.6 (not that the 10.6 is up to date but I wanted to at least get a few more updates to the point where I can actually view netflix or have the appropriate itunes for my iphone 5)

The last version of Snow Leopard was 10.6.8. You can get the Combo Updater from here:

That allows anyone with OS 10.6 through 10.6.7 to get to 10.6.8. Not sure if it will solve your issue, but it is always best to have the latest version of any software.
