Mac password forgotten

Have Mac Book Pro os Sierra. Installing printer & keeps asking for my Mac password. Where is it & how do I reinstate or change it? Are they asking for an administrator password or log in password?

Hello and welcome.

When installing software or changing some preferences, your Mac will ask for your login user password, or an administrator account/password if your user account isn't an Admin. If you are on a corporate/education owned Mac, then your account may not be an administrator, and you will have to ask your IT department.
