My wife left her Mac mini on during the night & we had power outage. Now all we get is a grey boot screen with Apple logo, spinning wheel & a bar graph that indicates it's loading something but freezes at about 10-20%. After a few minutes the mac mini shuts down.

Tried unplugging everything but get the same grey screen. Tried holding the space bar on boot & the same. Tried Command+S & a dos-like screen comes up. The last line says,

Singleuser boot --fsck not done
Root device is mounted read-only
If you want to make modifications to files:
/sbin/fsck -fy
/sbin/mount -uw /
If you wish to boot the system: exit

Then below that it says,

:/ root#

I typed in "exit" but it does nothing. Not sure what all that means or what to try next but I am downloading mountain lion again to make a bootable disc to attempt a repair or diagnose

Any other ideas? Need lots of them!:D
