Mac mail problem with my Mac Mini

When I try to delete emails, I get a message saying "Cannot move selected emails to trash. File exists.
I cannot delete any emails.
Anybody help? Thanks

Select the affected mailbox then in the menu under "Mailbox" select "Rebuild"
