hello all,

I have a Mac G5 PowerPC - old model I know, but I need it for software I'm familiar with. The problem recently has been that it keeps switching off after I start it up. Though usually I can get it to stay on after a few start / cut off attempts.

Does anyone know what is causing this please?

thank you, Stefano

Hello and welcome.
What i would advise you to do is:
1. Make sure that the connectiong to the power source are definite/working/not faulty.
2. Reset the hard drive.

Hope I helped

Hello and welcome.

-Which exact model Power Mac G5?
-What version of OS X - 10.5.8 Leopard?
-Is the white power light blinking in any pattern?
-Does it still chime at startup?
-Are you experiencing any hanging/SBOD?
-Does it lose the current time and date?

It sounds like either the PRAM battery or the power supply is starting to fail.

thank you for your reply Cory,

it's a 2GHz powerPC G5 with 10.4.11
it does chime at start up
don't know what SBOD is!?

it doesn't lose current time

a failing battery would be a good explanation - can it be changed?

regards, Stefano
