What kind of adapter do I need for an easel monitor (M7649: 30-pin) to attach it to a G5 (24-pin) tower? The monitor would mostly be for navigation purposes when loading music files from a home studio to the G5.

Hello and welcome.

The Apple Studio Display (17-inch LCD) (M7649) has an Apple Display Connector (ADC) cable. Depending on the graphics card in your Power Mac, if it has a DVI port, you would need this: Apple DVI to ADC Adapter (M8661LL/B). They can be hard to find.

Which exact model is your Power Mac G5, and which video card does it have?

Thanks, Cory! Model No.: A1186 EMC No.: 2113 100-240v-50-60 Hz, 12-5 A. Where would I find the video card info? It should be ‘factory issue’ (I won this in a raffle at work years ago).

OK, thanks.

That is actually an original Mac Pro, not a Power Mac G5. It would have one of the following graphics cards:
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT, GeForce 8800 GT, Quadro FX 4500, or ATI Radeon X1900 XT

All of those cards have DVI ports, so the adapter I mentioned should work just fine. I am actually using an Apple DVI to ADC Adapter with my old 22" Apple Cinema Display connected to a 2007 MBP's DVI port.
