Hey there,

I purchased a laptop from a local guy and I paid a decent price but the laptops fans are running extremely high.. I looked and it has to do with kernel_task taking up 80% of my CPU so it's maxed out right now which can't be good for this laptop.

ALSO, the iSight camera is not working. Is there any easy fixes to this without going to Apple and spending an arm and a leg?

Thank you.

Hello and welcome.

-Which exact model is it?
-Which version of OS X?
-Did they perform a clean install of OS X?

Hey Corey,

I was running Sierra and it was laggy, I then cleaned the drive completely and reinstalled Mavericks. Nothing changed.

It is currently running the most up to date Sierra.

The laptop is late 2013 MacBook Pro.

OK, thanks.

-13" or 15"?
-How much onboard RAM?
-Are the fans still ramping?
-Is kernel_task still hogging the CPU?
-Have you tried an SMC and NVRAM reset?
-Have you tried running Apple Diagnostics?

Sounds to me like it could be either a loose internal connection or some form of liquid damage inside the MBP, especially if you did a clean install back to Mavericks.
