java on mac

I have an assistant who has programmed something (gamelike) on Windows in Java, which he says should transfer to Mac but it doesn't do so successfully. It involves determining how far moving objects seem to move. Does anyone have any idea about this seeming incompatibility?

It depends on how it was programmed, JAVA while boast write once, run anywhere is far from that and the Apps often need considerable rework to work well on the Mac.

Oh and JAVA is a huge security hole, which is why Apple no longer ships with it pre-installed.
