Is this a mic problem?

Like many people nowadays, I'm at home and using Zoom for work meetings. Whenever the leader of our group talks, his voice keeps dropping out. It sounds to me like his mic is overloading, but I don't know what to tell him to do about it to solve the issue. He just suggested it was a problem with my headphones, but the other person on the call is hearing the same issue, and I use these headphones enough to know they're fine.

Hello,

If more than one person is hearing the same issue, then it is something with that person's mic and/or input level settings, and not your device.

I think it may indeed be the input settings. Yesterday we had a meeting where there was a larger group of people on the other end, apparently just using one mic, but I think they were all farther away from it than usual and the dropping-out issue was almost non-existent.
