iMac OSX 10.14.6 w/fusion drive
On startup I sometimes get that European circle with a slash through it, wait and then 15-20 seconds later it resumes startup ok.
Fearing problems.. I then run disk utility.
It will then say anywhere from 5-20 testing screen shots.
Sometimes it gets to a screenshot and after a longish time the system clock stops dead.
So I restart and run disk utility again. And it then keeps going and finishes saying all ok DONE

Usually when you start a program it will bounce on the dock 1-5 times and start, but when it bounces 10-20 times and then starts I get worried.

Am I dying? I mean the computer!

Hello.

It could be several things: not enough free space, corrupted OS install or disk directory, etc.

The startup prohibitive sign can sometimes be remedied by going to System Preferences... > Startup Disk, unlock/authenticate, then click to select the drive you want to startup from.

Which exact model Mac?
