IR remote issue

Hi All,
I have an old 2010 mid year Mac mini that I use for a music server. Since upgrading it to high serria my white six button apple remote will not control the volume. The other functions work. The mini is getting the ir signal. When I press the button up or down I get the icon in the attached photo on the screen. Anyone know the issue and fix?

Hello and welcome.

That normally means the audio connection is set to something that doesn't have volume control (line-level), such as an optical connection, HDMI, etc.

• Did you change/check your audio out settings?
• How is the Mac mini connected for audio?
