iphoto problems in yosemite

I just updated from Lion to Yosemite on my mac book pro and my iphoto is inaccessible. I get the message that I need to update. When I try through the mac app store, I get the message that this update is not available in the US. When I search for iphoto 9.6 update, I can't find a download for it. Help! This is so frustrating!
Maybe Yosemite was a big mistake?
