iPhoto/photos install PHOTOS GONE :(

hey everyone
i recently upgraded the iphoto app to photos.. and in the process I seem to have lost all my pictures
can anyone help?

I am using an old macbook air (2013) operating on Mac OS Big Sur.

Hello and welcome.

-Do you have a current Time Machine or other backup of your data?
-Which version of OS X were you running before Big Sur?
-Had you updated OS X/macOS previous to Big Sur to any version after OS X 10.10.3, which is what introduced Photos as a replacement to iPhoto?
-Do you still have an iPhoto Library and Photos Library in your Pictures folder?
