iMessage on my iPad is working!
It was replaced as the man in the Apple shop couldn't get iMessage to work & thought there was a software problem. However, iMessage on the replacement iPad wouldn't work either. i again, changed my ID and password to no avail.
I spoke to two people at Apple Support yesterday and an engineer re-configured my Apple account.
I'm happy!
