Hello.
I have tried many times to do this back up but all fail.
When I plug the iPad in there is no sign of it in the finder as suggested so I am unable to carry on .
Do I need a special cable for this or the one that is being used by the iPad?
If I need a different cable what might it be. I have seen many that all say charger cables. (USB-C to Lightning Cable, USB-C Charge Cable) but none say 'back up' cable .
Are they all one of the same?
The iPad is (6th generation).
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Hello and welcome.

-Which version of OS X/macOS on the mini?
-Which version of iOS/iPadOS on the iPad?

You would use the cable that came with the iPad - which would be a Lightning to USB (USB 2.0). The other cables you mentioned wouldn't work, and are for newer Mac models.

Hello Cory
Thanks for the reply.
The iPad has iOS9 and the mini is running the latest Catalina 10.15.6.
The cable with the iPad does not seem to do the job. It

has the newer smaller connection to it. Might that be the problem
The mini ports are USB 3.0

Thanks

OK, thanks.

-The iPad (6th Generation (Wi-Fi) has a Lightning connector and only supports iOS 11.3 and later. Can you double-check the model and version of iOS?
-The Mac mini (Late 2012) has four USB 3.0 ports, which are the larger USB 2.0 style, not USB-C (Thunderbolt 3) like the latest Macs, so the cable that you have is the correct one.
-Does the iPad charge when connected, just not "mount"?

It may just be a cable or software issue.

If your computer doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod

You could try the following on the Mac mini:
-How to reset the SMC of your Mac
-Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac

Thanks for the details.

The iPad software is 13.3.1 so should be okay and it charges so it might be my mini which I will check through using the details you sent me.
Thankyou for your help
