I inherited a circa 2011 Macbook and since support is being discontinued for this OS I want to re purpose it as a Ubuntu laptop. I'm trying to create a bootable USB stick to install Ubuntu but the OS is too old to support the Etcher app that makes a bootable disk. Alternately I could make a DVD but not sure how to make a bootable install disk. Simply burning the .ISO file doesn't work. HELP!

Hello and welcome.

I am not experienced with Linux at all. I do know that some folks have installed it, but normally you need some type of EFI loader to enable you to startup in Ubuntu Linux.

I would search for some Ubuntu forums to see if they may be able to lend a hand.

Sorry,

Also, which exact model is it, as most Macs from that era can still upgrade to macOS 10.12 Sierra/10.13 High Sierra at least.
