Inkscape & xQuartz

Running an iMac 10.14 and am looking for a free drawing program and heard a lot of mention about Inkscape. I am an old Adobe Illustrator user (CS4) and have a need to do some more design work on occasions and don't want to put out cash for a seldom used program.
My problem is that I understand that in order to run Inkscape, I need to install xQuartz. It really goes against my grain to install software to make my mac sun like a pc!
Are there many draw backs/issues with either or both of these softwares that I should be aware of?

Hello,

Maybe Autodesk Sketchbook would work? It's free, and doesn't require installing xQuartz, which is pretty old.
