iMacwill not accept password

iMac OS X Yosemite 10.10.3

At the log in page, I have tried at least 7 times to log in under my name as user. After 3 attempts I always get this message; "This account uses an iCloud password to log in. If you need to change the password, use another device to change it at appleid .apple.com." I have gone to the iCloud change password page, each time using my iPad, and entered a new password. When I return to the log in page on my iMac and enter the new password I continue to be denied and then the above mention statement once again comes up.

I will appreciate any and all suggestions as to what the problem may be and how to address the problem so that I can once again use my iMac under my name and not the guest log in.

Hello and welcome.

If the steps here OS X: Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password don't get things solved, it may be best to bring your Mac to an Apple Store and have them help you get it reset in person. It can be difficult to diagnose/resolve this issue via an online forum, without being able to "see" the Mac itself.
