I did thermal paste replacement for CPU & GPU with " Noctua NT-H2. Which seems be doing great. But the thermal pad "ARCTIC TP-3 / 1.5mm "

The System works fine till i start using " Youtube " only this one " Gpu 0 Diode " over heating like crazy and goes up to 109°C / 228.22°F" and as soon as i pause the video it drops quickly down. to normal temperature. While browsing i do not have any issues its completely normal temps. But is only this " Gpu 0 Diode " that does this.

" Apple iMac 27" A1419 5K Late 2014 Logic Board 820-5029-A w/ AMD R9 M295X 4GB " This is the board i think

Hello and welcome.

Sorry for the delayed response.

Is there a specific reason you performed the thermal paste replacement, or was it just because you were experiencing the issue?

Fans spinning up when streaming video are normal on the Intel Macs, and they will actually power off if the thermal limits are reached to protect the hardware. Those readings are a bit high, but you are probably OK if the iMac is not powering off or you are experiencing any other issues.

One key to thermal paste application: too much can cause thermal issues as well.

Hope that helps!

Thank you for the reply, I just wanted to replace my hard drive to SSD cause it failed. Since i opened it up. I changed the thermal paste and cleaned up the fans and rest. But, i didn't check the temperatures before. So, have no idea was this how it normally worked. But, since the temp goes to 108°C a lil too worrying temps. Just wanted to know if anyone else faces this issue. And the System runs well, no lag or shut downs.

OK, thanks for the additional information.

I really think it is within spec, since the main fan is just over a third of maximum speed when the GPU 0 Diode temperature spikes. If it were always that high, that would signal an issue.

Since you aren't having any other issues and the system is functioning normally, I think it will be fine. You could always upgrade to TG Pro and use the fan controls when that temperature spikes.

TG Pro is actually what i am using right now with the " Auto Boost " But the way it increases gradually when watching YouTube to 100°C to 108°C. But, as soon as i pause it. It drops so quickly to 70/60. Either ways, i got connected to " Apple support " as per there advice, if there are no alerts on " Activity Monitor " then there are no issues to be worried about. And when spoken about " TG PRO " temp indications. Since, its a third party app she says could not be reliable and stuff. A little unsure still.
