how to retain original photo timestamp after automator action

hi guys,
i have an automator action to add metadata to images. unfortunately the action overwrites the original date the photo was taken. how can i prevent this from happening?

Hello and welcome.

I don't believe there is a way to retain the original date, as the file has been "modified" by adding the metadata. If you open one of the photos in Preview, select Tools > Show Inspector from the menu bar, do both the creation date and modification date change after running the Automator action?
