how to delete safari

i have been given a macbook (mid 2007) that has been upgraded to 10.7.5 but safari thats installed needs 10.8.
i have been able to locate safari for 10.7.5 but cannot install as i get the message "there is a newer version installed......".
how do i get rid of the app i have? "safari app cannot be modified or deleted because it is required by mac osx"
