How erase macbook pro HDD if the screen looks like this...

My son tried to shut a toy metal boat in the macbook and noiw the screen is cracked and I can still interact with the desktop, but its totally scrambled. I just want to erase the HDD but I cant access disk utility to do so. What other options do I have?

-Are you trying to erase the HD before getting the MBP serviced?
