Does it matter that different devices, e.g ipad shows normal & acccepting e-mails, while i-phone says Account Error?Just condensing all that down a bit; deleting your old Hotmail account from whichever email client you're currently using and re adding it again will solve the problem, assuming that email client (app) eg. Apple Mail, is using up to date security protocols.
