Help!!!! System won’t let me out of recovery screen

Hey all my name is Cris, I’m new here and not sure how this all works but I need some help with my MacBook Pro. It’s a late 17 model and had Catalina installed. I didn’t like the software so I wanted to switch back to Mojave. I tried to wipe the hard drive but it’s telling me the drive I’m trying to wipe isn’t bootable. Trying to install from a usb drive. Anyway any help or ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks everyone.

MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017)
-What steps did you take to erase the drive?
-How was the USB installer drive created?
