I heard that FaceTime is now open to up to 32 people at a time on an single call. is that limited to the iPad Pro? I have a MacBook Air and it does not seem to be an option.

Hello and welcome.

Group FaceTime supports up to 32 people only with iOS 12 devices, not Macs. Maybe Apple will add it in a forthcoming release of macOS.

It looks like V10.14.1 of Mojave, currently in beta testing, will have that feature:

That feature was actually mentioned a couple, of months ago before Mojave was released, but Apple has issues with it, and thus it was left out of Mojave's initial release. It looks like the issues have been resolved (unless something else happens).
