Google switches to Bing in searches

My MBA has OS 10.14.5 and my Safari version is 12.1.1. Google is selected as my search preference in Safari . My start up page works correctly but recently, when I enter a search, Google switches to Bing whenever I hit enter to make a search. How to get rid of this ? In the history list it shows as Google and then Bing above it, and you can see the Google page flash on the screen and then the Bing page open on top of it. What can I do to fix this ?

Could be a malware problem. Run Malwarebytes anti malware , that might cure it.

Thank you runner. Just returned and ran Malwarebytes and it cured the problem. Again thank you.
