Glitchy Word for Mac after latest update - help!

Hi!
After (automatic) updating to the latest Word for Mac version, I can do nothing with files I receive from clients. The Word document freezes (especially long ones with tables), and the beachball keeps spinning for severalminutes before copying or pasting. Extremely frustrating. I read that I need to go back to an earlier version. How do I go about reverting to an earlier version of Word for Mac?

Any help will be highly appreciated (I'm tearing out my hair in frustration right now!!)
