Full Screen Mode in Split Screen Mode

Hi there,
I have recently moved from a MacBook Pro (El Capitan) to iMac (Sierra) and noticed I'm unable to view full screen mode while in splitscreen mode yet this was possible on the MacBook Pro?

For example, I have Youtube open in Safari on one partition and Notes open in the other partition, when I select full screen for the youtube clip it fills the full screen rather than just the left partition.

This was never the case on my MacBook Pro.

Is there something I'm missing? If not can I switch back to El Capitan on the iMac?

Think I understand the reason, I was using Chrome to achieve this on my Macbook, it doesn't seem to work with Safari

It could be a hardware limitation...which exact models of MacBook Pro and iMac?
