Finder is really slow, but all other programmes are really fast

Hi i have the late 2009 Imac 2.8Ghz I7 16gb ram on Mountain Lion 10.8.5.
Basically for some reason my finder is really slow, i get the spinning wheel whenever i click on it and it takes for ever to do something if anything at all. It even takes for ever just to show up the contents of folders.

However everything else on my mac is completely fine, such as my Photoshop is still running at full pace even when working on massive files, its just finder that's slow. I've done a virus scan with avast and everything has come up clean also. Please I hope someone can help me as its excruciating at the moment.

Have you run repair permission's? if nit run two or three times.

Yes, run repair permissions two or three times. I suspect you'll use Disk Utility for that, which is fine. I use a third party product called Oynx to do the same thing (plus numerous other useful tasks), and I repeat the repair permissions two or three times.

Also, while in Disk Utility, run Verify Disk, to see if there are any issues. But, unless you have been backing up your system, do not run repair disk.
